Privacy policy

Overview

GleanNote is a reading companion app (Android on Google Play; iOS when listed) operated by an individual developer. This policy explains how we handle information when you use the app and this marketing site at gleannote.mercai.in.

The product is local-first: your library and notes are designed to live on your device. Optional Premium cloud backup syncs library data when you enable it. AI features (Talk to your Book, flashcards) process the notes you choose to use as context.

Information we may process

• Account & purchase data — identifiers and subscription status from Google Play / App Store when you buy Premium or AI Max.
• Library content you create — books, chapters, notes, OCR text, and comments stored on device; synced only if you enable cloud backup.
• AI feature inputs — note text sent to generate Talk-to-Book answers or flashcards when you use those AI features (including the free AI questions on the Free plan).
• Diagnostics — limited crash or performance data from the OS / store SDKs to keep the app reliable.
• Marketing site — standard web logs (IP, user agent) from hosting; no requirement to create an account to read this site.

How we use data

• Provide the library, OCR, digest, chat, flashcard, and backup features
• Process subscriptions and restore purchases
• Improve reliability and fix bugs
• Respond when you email support

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your notes to train public foundation models for unrelated products.

Retention

On-device data remains until you delete notes, uninstall, or clear app storage. Cloud backups (if enabled) are retained while your Premium / AI Max backup remains active and for a reasonable period after cancellation to allow restore—then deleted or anonymized. Support emails are kept as needed to resolve your request.

Your choices

• Use Free features without enabling cloud backup
• Avoid AI features (Talk to your Book, AI flashcards) if you do not want note text processed for chat/cards
• Delete notes in-app or clear local data via OS settings
• Email privacy@mercai.in to request deletion of server-side backup or support records we control

Children

GleanNote is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). Do not use the app if you are under that age.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
